RETICELLO SQUARE

Il y a quelque temps, mon amie hollandaise Lilian (*) m'a envoyé quelques bobines de 'Venne Coton' pour faire des essais.  Comme nous sommes constamment à la recherche de fils de bonne qualité à un prix raisonnable, celui-ci pourrait répondre à nos attentes.
Ce fil à broder est disponible en deux épaisseurs différentes, comparables aux DMC Perlé 12 et Dentelles 80, ce qui le rend particulièrement approprié aux passé plat, barrettes et remplissages.  Bref, recommandé pour le reticello, les jours, etc.
Pour faire le test, après avoir tiré un motif du livre 'Stelle e bordure a reticello' de Giuliana Buonpadre, j'ai mis la main à l'ouvrage sur-le-champ.

Some time ago my Dutch friend Lilian (*) sent me a few bobbins of 'Venne Cotton', for testing.  As we are constantly looking for decent and affordable thread, maybe this one could come up to our expectations.
This embroidery thread is available in two different thicknesses, comparable to DMC Perlé 12 and Dentelles 80, which makes it particularly suitable for satin stitch as well as bars and fillings.  Therefore, highly recommended for reticello, drawn threadwork and the like.
To put it to the test, I chose a pattern from Giuliana Buonpadre's book 'Stelle e bordure a reticello' and immediately got to work.

Enige tijd geleden kreeg ik van mijn Nederlandse vriendin Lilian (*) enkele spoeltjes 'Venne Katoen' toegestuurd, om er proefjes mee te borduren.  We zijn namelijk permanent op zoek naar degelijk en betaalbaar garen en misschien kon dit aan onze verwachtingen beantwoorden.
Deze borduurdraad is verkrijgbaar in twee verschillende dikten, vergelijkbaar met Perlé 12 en Dentelles 80 van DMC, wat hem bijzonder geschikt maakt voor zowel platsteken als spijltjes en vullingen.  Een aanrader dus voor reticello, open zomen en dergelijke meer.
Om de proef op de som te nemen heb ik een motief gekozen uit het boek 'Stelle e bordure a reticello' van Giuliana Buonpadre en ben meteen aan de slag gegaan.

En le brodant, le 'Venne Coton' resseemble un peu au 'Coton à Broder'.  Cependant, il est moins lisse, ce qui donne une texture différente.  Si le fil offre un aspect un peu mat, il se laisse broder facillement et il est disponible en une riche variété de couleurs.  Alors que le 'Venne Coton 34/3' est légèrement plus fin que le 'Coton à Broder 20', le 34/2 est plus fin que le 'Coton à Broder 25'.

While embroidering, the 'Venne Cotton' looks somewhat like 'Coton à Broder'.  However, it is less smooth, which results in a different texture.  Although the thread may offer a rather mat appearance, it is easy to work with and available in a rich colour-range.  I found that 'Venne Cotton 34/3' is slightly thinner than 'Coton à Broder 20', while the 34/2 is thinner than 'Coton à Broder 25'.

Bij het borduren lijkt het 'Venne Katoen' enigszins op 'Coton à Broder'.  Het is echter minder glad, wat een andere textuur als gevolg heeft.  Biedt het garen misschien een wat mat uitzicht, het laat zich moeiteloos borduren en is voorhanden in een rijk kleurenaanbod.  Overigens vond ik het 'Venne Katoen 34/3' iets fijner dan 'Coton à Broder', terwijl het 34/2 dan weer dunner is dan 'Coton à Broder 25'.

Les photos révèlent déjà que le fil est nouveau pour moi : la tension des points n'est pas partout comme il se doit et les picots ne sont pas non plus exécutés à la perfection.  En effet, l'ensemble offre un aspect moins brillant que s'il était brodé avec du Perlé 12 et Dentelles 80 de DMC.  Un aspect qui me plaît d'ailleurs.  Je suis donc très satisfaite du résultat, au point d'avoir commandé les deux épaisseurs du 'Coton de Venne', car ce fil offre plein de possibilités.

The photos already show that the thread is new to me : the tension of the stitches is not everywhere as it should be and the picots are not perfectly executed either.  The whole indeed offers a matter aspect than if it were embroidered with DMC Perlé 12 and Dentelles 80.  Nevertheless, the result entirely satisfies me.  I ordered by now the 'Venne Cotton' in both thicknesses because this thread has a lot of potential.

Uit de foto's blijkt al dat het garen nieuw voor mij is : de spanning van de steken is niet overal zoals het hoort en de picots zijn evenmin allemaal perfect uitgevoerd.  Het geheel biedt inderdaad een wat matter aspect dan wanneer het met Perlé 12 en Dentelles 80 van DMC geborduurd zou zijn.  Maar ik vind het toch wel mooi en ben bijzonder tevreden met het resultaat.  Aangezien dit garen veel mogelijkheden biedt heb ik het 'Venne Katoen' alvast in beide dikten besteld.

Châles & Echarpes - Shawls & Stoles - Sjaals & Stola's (2/6) - WINDSPIEL

Une deuxième écharpe que j'ai tricotée cet hiver s'appelle 'Windspiel'.  Le modèle est une création de Nicole Eitzinger.  Il a été publié dans le magazine de tricot 'Sandra Stricken' (n° 2/2013) et il est disponible sur Ravelry.

A second scarf I knitted this winter is called 'Windspiel'.  The design is from Nicole Eitzinger.  It was published in the knitting magazine 'Sandra Stricken' (No. 2/2013) and is available on Ravelry.

Een tweede sjaaltje dat ik deze winter heb gebreid heet 'Windspiel'.  Het ontwerp is van de hand van Nicole Eitzinger.  Het werd gepubliceerd in het breimagazine 'Sandra Stricken' (nr. 2/2013) en is verkrijgbaar op Ravelry.

Contrairement au modèle présenté sur Ravelry, qui a été tricoté avec du DyeForYarn, j'ai réalisé mon Windspiel avec du Rowan Fine Lace, 80 % Baby Suri Alpaca et 20 % Fine Merino Wool, couleur Retro (923), 400 m/50 g.  Il m'en a fallu 2 pelotes ayant tricoté avec des aiguilles 3,5 mm (US 4).

Unlike the model presented on Ravelry, which has been knitted with DyeForYarn, I realized my Windspiel with Rowan Fine Lace, 80 % Baby Suri Alpaca and 20 % Fine Merino Wool, colour Retro (923), 400 m/50 gr.  I needed 2 skeins using 3.5 mm needles (US 4).

In tegenstelling tot het model op Ravelry, dat vervaardigd is met DyeForYarn, heb ik mijn Windspiel gebreid met Rowan Fine Lace, 80 % Baby Suri Alpace en 20 % Fine Merino Wool, kleur Retro (923), 400 m/50 gr.  Ik heb er 2 bollen van verbruikt met breipennen 3,5 mm (US 4).

Bien que la laine Rowan Fine Lace soit l'une de mes préférées, j'avais du mal à apprécier l'aspect de l'écharpe en tricotant.  C'est pourquoi il m'a fallu un certain temps avant de la terminer.  Plus d'une fois j'ai hésité à continuer.  Cependant, c'est lors du blocage de l'écharpe que le motif de dentelle a ressorti dans toute sa splendeur.  Du coup je me suis rappelée pourquoi j'avais été si déterminée à choisir ce modèle.

Although Rowan Fine Lace is one of my favourites, I could hardly appreciate the look of the scarf while knitting.  That's why it took me a while to finish it.  More than once I wasn't sure whether to continue.  Yet, it was during the blocking of the scarf that the lace pattern emerged in all its splendour.  At once I remembered why I had been so determined to choose this model.

Hoewel de Rowan Fine Lace-wol een van mijn favorieten is, had ik onder het breien moeite om het aspect van de sjaal te appreciëren, waardoor het nogal wat tijd heeft gevergd om hem te beëindigen.  Meer dan eens twijfelde ik zelfs of ik wel verder zou breien.  Pas tijdens het blokken kwam echter de pracht van het kantmotief plots tot zijn volle recht.  En toen wist ik meteen weer waarom ik aanvankelijk zo beslist dit model had gekozen.

En hiver, je suis toujours plus productive en tricot qu'en broderie.  Il serait peut-être utile de vous montrer tout de suite mes résultats de tricot de cet hiver, avant qu'ils soient usés.

In winter months I am always more productive in knitting than in embroidery.  It might be useful to show you my knitting results from this winter right away, before they have been worn out.

In de wintermaanden ben ik altijd productiever in breiwerk dan in borduren.  Het zou wellicht nuttig zijn om jullie mijn breiwerkresultaten van deze winter meteen al te laten zien, vooraleer ze zijn afgedragen.

Le premier dans la série s'appelle Lucas.  Il s'agit, une fois de plus, de l'un des modèles du talentueux Steve Rousseau.  Du même créateur, j'ai déjà tricoté les modèles Victor et Dawn.

The first in the series is called Lucas.  It is yet another model of the talented Steve Rousseau.  From the same designer I already knitted the Victor and Dawn models.

De eerste in de serie heet Lucas.  Het betreft nog maar eens een model van de talentvolle Steve Rousseau.  Van dezelfde ontwerper breide ik al de modellen Victor en Dawn.

J'ai tricoté mon Lucas avec du Fonty Zephir 100 % laine, disponible en cônes de 250 g (1.895 m).
La couleur que j'ai choisie pour cette étole s'appelle Vieux Rose (N° 9025) et il m'en a fallu 1.200 mètres en tricotant avec des aiguilles Nos. 3 et 4 (US 2.5 et 6).

I knitted my Lucas with Fonty Zephir 100 % wool, available in cones of 250 g (1.895 m).
The colour I chose for this stole is called Vieux Rose (No 9025) and I needed 1.200 m of it, knitting with pins Nos 3 and 4 (US 2.5 and 6).

Lucas is gebreid met Fonty Zephir 100 % wol, verkrijgbaar in conussen van 250 gr (1.895 m).
De kleur die ik voor deze stola heb gekozen heet Vieux Rose (nr. 9025) en ik heb er 1.200 m van verbruikt met breipennen nrs. 3 en 4 (US 2.5 en 6).

Mon étole Lucas retombe avec élégance et, en outre, il est particulièrement chaud et agréable à porter.  Je trouve la couleur magnifique, quoi que la véritable teinte se révèle difficile à capturer en photo.

My Lucas stole has a lovely drape and, moreover, it is particularly warm and comfortable to wear.  I think the colour is beautiful, although the real tone doesn't seem so easy to capture on photo.

Mijn Lucas stola valt elegant en is bovendien bijzonder warm en behaaglijk om dragen.  De kleur vind ik prachtig, hoewel de echte tint zich niet zo makkelijk op foto lijkt te laten vatten.
