Le matin avant l'ouverture  - The morning before opening - 's Morgens voor de opening

Cette fois-ci, j'y étais !  Le salon international de textile et ouvrages d'aiguille à Parme (Italie) ouvrait ses portes cette année du 15 au 17 mai.  A la dernière minute les organisateurs avaient reporté l'ouverture d'une semaine, ce qui embrouillait le planning de certains exposants à tel point qu'ils décidèrent de se retirer.  D'après ce qu'on disait cette confusion fut aussi la raison pour laquelle le public était venu un peu moins nombreux que les années précédentes.  Toutefois, l'événement restait de taille et a été pour moi une riche expérience.

This time I was there !  The international neeldework and textile fair in Parma (Italy) opened its doors from 15 to 17 May.  At the last minute the organizers had postponed the opening a week, which confused some exhibitor's planning to the extent that they finally withdrew.  According to reports this disorder was also the reason why the public turned up less numerous than in previous years.  Nevertheless, it was a great event and a rich experience for me.

Deze keer was ik er bij !  Het internationaal salon van Parma (Italië) voor naaldwerk en textiel opende dit jaar zijn deuren van 15 tot en met 17 mei.  Op de valreep hadden de organisatoren de opening nog een week uitgesteld, waardoor sommige exposanten in moeilijkheden werden gebracht en op het laatste moment afhaakten.  Naar verluidt was deze wanorde er ook de oorzaak van dat het publiek wat minder talrijk kwam opdagen dan de vorige jaren.  Niettemin, het bleef een groot evenement en een rijke ervaring.

Première escale, cela va de soi : Filofilo', le stand de Giuliana Buonpadre, où je retrouvai, pour mon plus grand plaisir, mon reticello.  Il était étalé parmi d'autres ouvrages traités dans son dernier livre Herbarium.

First stop, of course : Filofilo', Giuliana Buonpadre's stand, where I felt a great pleasure to find again my reticello.  It was exposed among other embroideries that were dealt with in her last book Herbarium.

Eerste halte, uiteraard : Filofilo', de stand van Giuliana Buonpadre, waar ik tot groot genoegen mijn eigen reticelloborduurwerk terugvond.  Het lag er uitgestald met enkele andere werken die in haar laatste boek Herbarium aan bod komen.

A titre de surprise, Giuliana avait invité son ancien professeur de Reticello et d'Aemilia Ars : Paola Negri, une notoriété dans les milieux des brodeuses italiennes.  A peine débarquée que je me trouvais l'aiguille à la main pour un stage d'Aemilia Ars d'un jour et demi chez Paola Negri.  Aemilia Ars : le nouveau défi !

As a surprise Giuliana had invited her former Reticello and Aemilia Ars teacher : Paola Negri, a person of great renown in Italian embroidery circles.  Barely arrived I found myself with a needle in my hand for an Aemilia Ars workshop of a day and a half with Paola Negri.  Aemilia Ars : the new challenge !

Bij wijze van verrassing had Giuliana haar eigen vroegere docente Reticello en Aemilia Ars uitgenodigd : Paola Negri, een bekendheid in de Italiaanse borduurmiddens.  Nog maar pas aangekomen en ik had al een naald in mijn hand voor een stage van anderhalve dag in Aemilia Ars bij Paola Negri.  Aemilia Ars : dat wordt vast de nieuwe uitdaging !

Il y avait toujours du monde dans le stand Filofilo' et les élèves de Giuliana travaillaient dur et concentré.

Filofilo' was always crowded and the ladies following Giuliana's course worked hard and concentrated.

Het was altijd druk in de stand Filofilo' en er werd hard gewerkt door Giuliana's cursisten.

Ses livres aussi suscitaient un vif intérêt.

There was also a great interest in her books.

Ook haar boeken genoten ruime belangstelling.

Le stand Filofilo' et l'atelier de Giuliana étaient un lieu d'agréables rencontres.  En plus de Paola Negri, l'ancien prof de Giuliana, j'ai fait la connaissance de beaucoup d'autres personnes sympathiques, dont Lilian Kok (à gauche sur la photo), venue des Pays-Bas pour visiter le salon de Parme et suivre un stage chez Giuliana Buonpadre.  Elle a un blog intéressant : http://handwerkcafewaddinxveen.blogspot.com

The Filofilo' stand and Giuliana's workshop were a place of pleasant meetings.  In addition to Paola Negri, Giuliana's former teacher, I met a lot of other sympathetic people, as Lilian Kok (left on the photo), who came all from the Netherlands to Parma to visit the fair and follow a reticello college with Giuliana Buonpadre.  You can find all her work on her interesting blog : http://handwerkcafewaddinxveen.blogspot.com

De stand Filofilo' en Giuliana's workshop waren een plaats van aangename ontmoetingen.  Benevens Paola Negri, Giuliana's vroegere borduurlerares, heb ik er nog heel wat andere sympathieke mensen leren kennen, waaronder Lilian Kok (links op de foto), helemaal uit Nederland gekomen om het salon van Parma te bezoeken en een cursus te volgen bij Giuliana Buonpadre.  Wat Lilian allemaal uitvoert kan je zien op haar interessante blog : http://handwerkcafewaddinxveen.blogspot.com

Je garde un souvenir particulièrement agréable de Flaminia (à droite sur la photo) : Sicilienne, avocate de formation, assistante de Giuliana Buonpadre et admiratrice de ses ouvrages.

I keep a particularly warm memory of Flaminia (right on the picture) : Sicilian, lawyer, assistant of Giuliana and admirer of her works.

Een bijzonder aangename herinnering koester ik aan Flaminia (rechts op de foto), uit Sicilië, advocaat van opleiding, trouwe assistente van Giuliana Buonpadre en bewonderaarster van haar werken.

En plus de Filofilo' il ne manquait pas d'écoles de broderie : Instituto Cimbro Luserna, Il Merletto di Bologna, Arte Decorative Italiane, Associazione Puntomaglie, Ars Aesis et beaucoup d'autres encore.

In addition to Filofilo' embroidery schools weren't lacking at all : Instituto Cimbro Luserna, Il Merletto di Bologna, Arte Decorative Italiane, Associazione Puntomaglie, Ars Aesis and many others.

Benevens Filofilo' ontbrak het op Italia Invita niet aan borduurscholen : Instituto Cimbro Luserna, Il Merletto di Bologna, Arte Decorative Italiane, Associazione Puntomaglie, Ars Aesis en nog vele andere.

A ne pas oublier bien sûr les nombreux mercerias (merceries), dont Tombolo e Disegni.  WOW !

And, of course, I can't forget the many mercerias (needlwork shops), as Tombolo e Disegni.  WOW !

Bovendien waren de mercerias (shops van borduurbenodigdheden) talrijk aanwezig, waaronder uiteraard Tombolo e Disegni.  WOW !

J'ai même rencontré des compatriotes !  Deux dames sympathiques de Louvain (Belgique) qui montent chaque année leur stand à Parme : Serena.

I even met compatriots !  Two sympathetic ladies from Leuven (Belgium) who each year put up their stand at Parma's fair : Serena.

En zelfs landgenoten heb ik er ontmoet !  Twee sympathieke dames uit Leuven (België) die elk jaar hun stand opzetten in Parma : Serena.

A cause de mon stage d'Aemilia Ars chez Paola Negri il ne me restait malheureusement pas le temps nécessaire de visiter le salon dans le détail.  J'ai dû me contenter d'une visite éclair le matin avant l'ouverture.  Mais mon photographe personnel (mon mari) a eu amplement l'occasion, pendant que je trimais sur Aemilia Ars, de faire un reportage photographique des stands importants et de quelques petites merveilles de broderies qui étaient exposées.

Because of my Aemilia Ars college with Paola Negri unfortunately the necessary time was lacking to make a thorough tour of the fair so that I had to content myself with a flash visit in the morning before opening.  Fortunately, while I laboured on Aemilia Ars, my personal photographer (my husband) had ample time to make a photo report of the most important stands and some small embroidery gems that were exposed.

Door mijn intense cursus Aemilia Ars bij Paola Negri bleef er jammer genoeg maar weinig tijd over om het salon uitgebreid te bezoeken zodat ik me tevreden moest stellen met een bliksemvisite, 's morgens net voor de opening.  Gelukkig heeft mijn persoonlijke fotograaf (mijn echtgenoot), terwijl ik aan het werk was, ruimschoots de gelegenheid gehad om kiekjes te nemen van de belangrijkste stands en enkele prachtige borduurwerken die er te zien waren.
