GIULIANA RICAMA

It was in 2015 at the Italia Invita Fair that I first came into contact with 'Giuliana Ricama'.  Then, at the Manidoro show in 2017, I had the opportunity to get a closer look at this beautiful Italian embroidery magazine.  Impressed by the magnificent layout and the diversity of topics, I realized that this was the kind of magazine I had been looking for for a number of years.  So, when I found out that they now were also shipping abroad, I immediately subscribed.
Since then, I look forward to every new issue, for this embroidery journal is a source of inspiration and always delightful to the eye when leafing through it, because each time again you discover something new.  Its great asset is the rich variety of the treated subjects.  All embroidery techniques are given a chance in interesting articles and are carefully illustrated with diagrams and photos.  Each issue is surprising with its modern vision on ancient techniques.  In short, an embroidery journal I love.

Imagine my surprise when the editorial staff of Giuliana Ricama contacted me with the offer to publish one of my embroideries in their magazine.  Needless to say I felt very honored.
I decided upon the tablecloth in Ukrainian embroidery I was working on at that time.  Already having some experience in this technique (see the pouch for my e-reader), I knew that Ukrainian embroidery was a laborious work.  However, it is never a waste of time, the result always being beautiful and rewarding.
My Ukrainian work has become a tablecloth of 105 x 105 cm, embroidered on 38 count Sotema linen, colour pink, with threads Ritorto Fiorentino white Nos 8 and 12 and Ritorto Giza colour 807 Nos 8 and 12.  All technical information and references are found in the No 21 March-April 2018 issue of the Giuliana Ricama magazine.

Ik voelde me heel vereerd.

In order to place the Ukrainian embroidery technique in its historical context, I added an article to the publication, relying on a text by Mrs. Tineke Tinbergen (Netherlands), who allowed me the use and the translation of her introduction to her course on Ukrainian embroidery.  I take this opportunity to express my respect and cordial gratitude to Tineke Tinbergen.

Finally, I would like to express my thanks to Nicoletta, Francesca and Martina, members of Giuliana Ricama's editorial staff, for their help and pleasant cooperation.
